For Zachary Utech of Service Experts Heating, AC & Plumbing off Scottsville Road, he's not going to lie, this week's heat has been great for business.

"Wow. Yeah, we, you know, with the 1heat wave yesterday and today, and it looks like continuing into the holiday weekend, we probably 2dealt with, I would say, 30 to 40 units so far."

His staff of a dozen technicians are 3breaking a sweat keeping the Rochester region cool and comfortable.

Meantime, Utech wants to ensure folks can maximize the 4efficiency of the A/C in their homes.

"The first thing that I recommend every homeowner do right before the season 5kicks off, or shortly after it has, is making sure that outdoor coil, that outdoor 6condenser is clean."

For one like this, it can 7load up pretty quickly with grass 8clippings, pet hair, and bugs. A simple hose 9spray down can keep it up to speed.

Also, if you're not home, don't go crazy with the 10thermostat.

"Why would we waste that energy? Maybe during that period of time, the temperature in the house is set to 72, 73, 74 so that unit doesn't have to work as hard to keep up with the temperature."

Additionally, change out your air filter every month or every other month depending on how dirty it gets. Check the 11dimensions before you head to the store.

"Making sure we've got a good filter in there to keep it from getting 12gucked up with any sort of indoor 13pollutants or dirt, dust, and 14debris."

And just a gentle 15nudge. He knows it's hard to picture right now, but Old Man Winter will be here again. Don't forget your filter in the colder weather in your HVAC.

"We say oftentimes 16an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, and by that we mean to say that doing the simple things."

"냉방 시즌이 시작되기 직전이나 시작된 직후에 모든 가정에서 가장 먼저 해야 할 일은 실외 코일과 실외 응축기가 깨끗한지 확인하는 것입니다."

이 같은 실외기는 잔디 깎은 조각이나 반려동물의 털, 벌레 등이 금방 쌓일 수 있어 호스로 가볍게 물을 뿌려 청소하는 것만으로도 제 성능을 유지하는 데 도움이 됩니다.

또 집을 비울 때는 온도조절기를 지나치게 낮게 설정할 필요가 없다고 조언했습니다.

"에너지를 낭비할 이유가 없죠. 집을 비우는 동안에는 실내 온도를 72~74도(화씨, 약 22~23도) 정도로 설정해 두면 에어컨이 적정 온도를 유지하기 위해 과도하게 작동하지 않아도 됩니다."

또한 공기 필터는 오염 정도에 따라 한 달 또는 두 달에 한 번씩 교체하는 것이 좋으며, 새 필터를 구입하기 전에는 필터의 규격을 미리 확인해야 한다고 덧붙였습니다.

"실내 오염물질이나 먼지, 이물질이 쌓여 성능이 떨어지지 않도록 상태가 좋은 필터를 사용하는 것이 중요합니다."

또 그는 지금은 상상하기 어렵겠지만 곧 겨울이 다시 찾아오는 만큼, 추운 계절에도 냉난방 공조(HVAC) 시스템의 필터를 잊지 말고 관리해야 한다고 당부했습니다.

"흔히 '예방이 치료보다 낫다'는 말이 있듯, 간단한 점검과 관리만으로도 큰 고장을 막을 수 있다는 의미입니다."
