World Cup: Residents Near Venue Offer Rentals

월드컵 앞두고 경기장 인근 숙소 대여 확산

Fans of Scotland's 1national team call themselves the Tartan Army.

They're in the World Cup 2for the first time in 28 years. And as David Morris tells us, some fans plan to travel to Foxborough in June, whether they have tickets to the game or not.

"You have no idea what you guys are in for. Honestly, when the Tartan Army arrives in your city, it's going to be something special."

Morris searched for places to stay close to Gillette Stadium.

"It was starting to just 3rise on a, not even on a 4daily basis — on an hourly basis."

Fellow Scot David Jamieson found the same as he 5looked for a place.

"People are selling the rooms for four times what they normally sell for, kind of four and five times the normal price."

Both men 6turned to Facebook.

"I looked, and there's a lot of Foxborough discussion groups. You guys are busy discussing things."

Offering up their homes in Scotland in a 7house swap.

"We've had loads and loads, hundreds of messages."

"You have to be willing to let somebody else into your space if you're going to do that."

Doug Quattrochi of Mass Landlords Incorporated says the price of a stay has gone up during the World Cup.

"A single night is going for over $1,000 8depending on the space available. I saw one place for $3,000 a night listed for around that time."

A search of Airbnb 9yields several results in and around Foxborough 10promising World Cup 11retreats — in some cases for tens of thousands of dollars a week.

Quattrochi cautions against putting up your home for a 12short-term rental.

"If you're not prepared to 13deal with that, to 14screen your 15applicants to make sure that they'll be respectful, to have a plan in case something happens, it could be a real disaster."

“숙소 규모에 따라 1박에 1,000달러가 넘기도 합니다. 그 무렵 1박 3,000달러로 나온 곳도 봤어요.”

에어비앤비를 검색해 보면 폭스버러 인근에서 월드컵 방문객을 위한 숙소를 내세운 곳들이 여럿 나오며, 일부는 일주일 숙박비가 수만 달러에 달하기도 합니다.

콰트로치는 자신의 집을 단기 임대로 내놓는 것에 대해 주의를 당부했습니다.

"그런 상황에 대비할 준비가 되어 있지 않거나, 신청자를 제대로 걸러내지 못하고, 만일의 사태에 대비한 계획도 없다면, 정말 큰 문제가 될 수 있습니다."
