In the U.S., there are three most common types of skin cancer: 1basal cell and 2squamous cell carcinomas, which are typically 3treatable, and 4melanoma, which is much more 5deadly.
"The earlier you find, and diagnose and 6detect a cancer, the higher the 7cure rate will be from the cancer."
Dr. Shane Dormady with El Camino Health says up to 95% of skin cancers are curable, but knowing the warning signs is critical.
He says the letters A-B-C-D-E can help you remember the 8red flags.
A is for 9Asymmetry. If a spot isn't a perfect circle or has an 10odd shape, get it checked.
B is for 11Border. Beware of a spot that's not 12sharply 13defined.
C is for color.
"Anything that is really dark, black, or purplish or of course bleeding, is a major warning sign and needs to be checked out immediately by a 14physician."
D is for 15Diameter. Dormady says if a spot is larger than the diameter of a pencil eraser, see a doctor.
Finally, E is for 16Evolution.
"If the colors changing, if something's getting bigger, that's 17worrisome for a skin cancer."
Dormady says if you spot a warning sign, see a doctor.
He says anyone with a personal history of skin cancer should see a 18dermatologist every three months.
Those with a family history should get skin checked by a doctor every six months.
And everyone should get a skin screening from a board-certified dermatologist at least once per year.

그는 ‘ABCDE’라는 글자가 위험 신호를 기억하는 데 도움이 된다고 설명했습니다.
A는 비대칭(Asymmetry)을 뜻합니다. 반점이 완벽한 원이 아니거나 모양이 불규칙하다면 반드시 검사를 받아야 합니다.
B는 경계(Border)를 뜻합니다. 경계가 뚜렷하지 않은 반점은 주의해야 합니다.
C는 색깔(Color)을 의미합니다.
“색이 매우 진하거나 검은색, 자주빛을 띠거나 출혈이 있는 경우, 이는 심각한 위험 신호이므로 즉시 의사의 진찰을 받아야 합니다.”
D는 지름(Diameter)을 의미합니다. 도마디 박사는 반점이 연필 지우개 지름보다 크면 의사의 진찰을 받아야 한다고 조언합니다.
마지막으로 E는 변화(Evolution)를 뜻합니다.
“색이 변하거나 반점이 커지는 경우는 피부암 가능성이 있으니 주의가 필요합니다.”
도마디 박사는 위험 신호를 발견하면 반드시 의사의 진찰을 받아야 한다고 강조했습니다.
피부암 개인 병력이 있는 사람은 3개월마다 피부과 전문의를 찾아 정기 검진을 받아야 한다고 설명합니다.
가족력이 있는 경우에는 6개월마다 의사에게 피부 검진을 받는 것이 권고됩니다.
또한 모든 사람은 최소 1년에 한 번 공인 피부과 전문의에게 피부 검진을 받아야 한다고 덧붙였습니다.
