The National Retail Federation 4estimates consumers will spend $189.81 on gifts and celebrations per person this year, with total spending 5reaching $22.4 billion. That's 6slightly down from last year, but still much higher than 7pre-pandemic levels. 

"Even as we're seeing 8broader retail spending go back to pre-pandemic 9norms, we're still seeing this 10elevated spending on these holidays and special events."

11Aside from greeting cards, clothes top the list of the most popular items for dad this year, 12followed by special outings like sporting events, gift cards or personal care items like beard 13trimmers. 

"We're also seeing some new areas of gifting really rise in popularity, things like personal care, sporting goods or leisure items, as well as things like automotive accessories, 14home improvement and tools." 

And if you're looking for ways to save on spending, Cullen says many retailers began offering discounts after Memorial Day. So, 15keep an eye out for sales.
