Russian Nuclear Ability In Space Raises Security Concerns
우주에서의 러시아 핵 기술로 인한 안보 우려 제기
Russia's 1pursuit to possibly launch nuclear technology in space is raising serious 2national security questions. But the White House is trying to 3soothe concerns about the real danger it presents to the United States. National Security Communications advisor John Kirby seeking to 4quell those concerns.
"There is no immediate threat to anyone's safety. We are not talking about a weapon that can be used to attack human beings or cause physical 5destruction here on earth."
The White House response, coming a day after the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner, 6fueled fears by announcing a 7cryptic quote, serious national security threat. Some Republicans wondering if Turner's 8vague statement Wednesday was released as part of a 9political stunt, his Congress 10debate sending more aid to Ukraine, something House Intelligence Chairman Turner supports.
"I worry that the 11motivation to draw so much attention to this is less about intelligence and national security and more about a politician who wants to send $60 billion to Ukraine."
Even though it's unclear how far Russian technology has 12progressed, the details are still raising concerns about Russia's overall threat to national security.
"What the chairman was trying to do, perhaps, was to try to send a 13wake-up call to both the Speaker and his Republican colleagues that Russia still remains very much a threat to the United States."
